These photos were taken on the evening of July 8, 2014. The Sun had set and the moon was in the southern sky. The photos were taken at 15 second intervals. I thought the scope was in tracking mode so I had left it to go inside. I didn't check on the pictures till later and found this. Perhaps an abaration on the lens, perhaps something else. I did not see with my own eyes the moon turn red, but the camera did. Interesting none the less, no idea why this happened. Reminds me of the Blood Moon that happen on April 15, 2014.


My guess is that there is an atmosphere on the moon and like what happens on earth, when the suns angle gets at sunset, we see a lot of red. The angle of the sun to the moon in regards to it's atmosphere was exactly at the right angle while the pictures were being taken.


Another possibility is that if the moon is indeed a hologram, we are seeing the medium upon which the image is projected into, which is red in color when the sun shines on it at this particular angle.
